Choyon Khairul Habib's Poetry Evening

Choyon Khairul Habib was born in Dhaka, now capital of Bangladesh in 1965.

At the age of six in 1971 Choy had to endure the life of a refugee along with 5 other siblings for 9months when his parents decided to leave Dhaka to escape the gruesome brutality of the Pakistani government unleashed on the Bengalis.

Back in the 1980’s Choy was an infant terrible in his hometown. Teaming up with Kajal Shaahnewaz, Ahmed Muzib and few other insane poets he contributed significantly in shaping a distinctive voice in contemporary Bengali poetry; later years what was to be called the voice of the eighties: core-hedonism mixed up with prophetic introversion.

Choy left Bangladesh in the early part of the Ninetieis.Mingling with Gypsies, drag queens and poets from all over the world he screamed Bangla poetry to his hearts content in French markets. He had his stints as airline clerk, broadcast Journalist, translator and in innumerable restaurants he served almost everyone on the planet! He is earning his livelihood in drinks trade at present as a qualified connoisseur in London.
