This documentary film is about the life and work of Tassaduq Ahmed who dedicated his life since the 1950s for the betterment of the lives of the Bangladeshi people in Britain, particularly in the London borough of Tower Hamlets. He campaigned and drew support of various authorities for funding and organising programmes for better housing, improvements in education and health care of Bangladeshi people.
Tassaduq Ahmed had great organising talent. His campaign and activities embraced a wide spectrum of issues including media, art, culture and literature. In the political arena, Tassaduq Ahmed worked steadfastly for the Bangladesh liberation movement as indeed in the subsequent years against the dictatorial establishment and gathering together the support of democratic elements.
He was always conscious of our identity as a Bangali but not hostile to others, and worked to maintain and create awareness of that concept.
Tassaduq Ahmed was not only an icon of unity in our community but also the one who tried to narrow the gap between ours and the mainstream community.
Tassaduq Ahmed was a firm believer in the commonality of culture between the two Bengals and worked tirelessly to sustain the common bonds between the two of which he was indeed the unofficial ambassador.
In his private life Tassaduq Ahmed was always fourth coming in helping, financially and otherwise, gifted young people to establish themselves in life.
It is rare to find a personality like him-a man with a secular and forward-looking mind above the narrowness of religious constrictions.
This documentary is a small token of our effort to acknowledge his contributions to make our lives in Britain that much better.
